(Posted 1/2/2020): Hoping I'm not starting too early. Would be great to hike some of this route with another who will be thru hiking as well. Looking forward to an amazing adventure of navigating through the incredible landscapes of this part of the southwest. I hiked the AZT northbound in 2018 and I am finding this incredible need to immerse myself in this wonderful terrain again. I understand that this will be the hike I've been searching for since I first set out southbound on the AT in 2002.

300 Miles from
AZT to CDT
(Posted 5/30/2016): I am currently on the trail connecting my Grand Loop hike from the AZT to the CDT. Check out my journal sites or search Going Loopy in the Wild West. I am hiking very slowly, taking it all in. I want to reach the San Juans in Colorado afer the snow melts, so I am not in a hurry. I have found the GET to be challenging, because I am not using GPS. (Mine crapped out just before I started.) The remote nature of the landscape has rewards far beyond some of the other trails. Lot's of solitude, with none of the annoying hike trash and party tribes as on the PCT. Alone out here. Glide On!

(Posted 3/22/2014): I live in Scotland and am 61 years old. I'm a keen walker here and in the Pyrenees (GR10). I've walked the entire John Muir Trail from Yosemite, enjoying the wilderness and challenge of navigation, carrying all food etc. I'd like a similar, self supporting partner on the GET, so together we can provide each other some mutual support in case of accidents such as broken legs etc. [In March of *2015*] I'm planning to do the walk in a time-scale that is average but perhaps delaying at especially beautiful places etc. I have no strict time-scale constraints. I enjoy a chat (politics, culture, life etc) but am equally content with quiet contemplation. I play the fiddle and like traditional music. Any advice or interest welcome.

(Updated 12/22/11): I finished the GET last week finally; hiked into First Water Trailhead Friday morning, Dec. 16, after 57 days on the trail. Had some pretty rough weather out of Safford. Snowed on me for nearly 4 days straight in the Pinaleno Mountains and never got above freezing. Was hiking through knee deep snow for a couple of days and melting snow for drinking water because my water kept freezing in my pack. Then the sun finally came out and had a beautiful hike down into Superior. The last couple of months on this trip have been some of the most enjoyable times I've ever spent. (Posted 2/12/09): I'm considering hiking a couple segments come the end of May with a few friends. I'm considering going through either the San Mateo Mts. or the Magdalenas. I'd rather the prior though because I've never been there. This would be segments 28, 29 and about half of 30 to get to FR 107 to be picked up. The other option would be to start at FR 107 and hike into the town of Magdalena. So for questions: how likely is it that the guide book chapters for these segments will be done by May? Barring that, the most helpful information would be on how to get from say, I-25, to the G.E.T. starting at segment 28. Can you drive on Burma Rd (we'll have a jeep to take us there)? I'd like to drive as far as possible to start. Walking from Monticello would add an entire day to our trip pretty much. I'll be buying the Topo CD in a couple weeks which will hopefully answer most of our questions. Any general words of wisdom about these segments would be handy as well. For instance, are there any particularly difficult to spot intersections where we need to switch trails? Missing forest service signs seem to be par for the course in the Magdalenas...

(Posted 11/09/07): First let me commend you on this absolutely first class website...very professional and well thought out. Just browsing through it has me excited about hiking the GET. My hobby is long distance backpacking and I have journalled my previous hikes on www.trailjournals (dot) com where it appears I will be the first to journal a thru-hike of The Grand Enchantment Trail. During the next several weeks I will begin my pre-hike journal and I will have more questions as I start to do some planning. My last couple of hikes, The Florida Trail and The Buckeye Trail were solo. I would very much like a hiking partner for the GET. Before you jump in and join me though, please read some of my journals to get a flavor for my personality. It does not appear that the GET is an easy trail to follow. If this is the case, that is not a problem because during my last two hikes I found myself relying on blazing that was inadequate and "herd paths" that weren't there. Also, I think if I do it with someone I will be less likely to get irritated when I lose my way. My start date is very much uncertain at this point as it lools like I may be re-hiking The Florida Trail this January thru early March. It may very well be earlier.
