Founded by the Kennecott Mining Company during the early boom years of the nearby Ray copper mine, Kearny today reflects its unique heritage as a master-planned working-class community, replete with wide, tree-lined residential streets and a compact business district ideal for locals and travelers alike. Located just 30 miles south of Superior as the trail travels, Kearny presents something of an "either / and" option for GETers. While not as sizable nor eclectic as Superior, Kearny is similarly located a half-dozen or so miles off-trail and provides a comparable array of services including post office, eateries, groceries, lodging, and a public library.
